Low Cement Castables Types and Applications

Refractory castable is a refractory mixture composed of refractory aggregate, binder, and admixture. This article mainly introduces the application types of low-cement castables and ultra-low-cement castables. Low-cement castable and ultra-low-cement castable can be used to line rotary kilns for various heat treatment furnaces such as heating and soaking furnaces.

Types of low cement castables

Low cement castables are available in different materials, such as clay, high alumina, mullite, corundum, chrome corundum, zirconia mullite, zirconia corundum, zirconia spinel, and carbon and carbon Silicon, classified according to their performance, can also be divided into vibrating castables and self-flowing castables.

Composition of two refractory castables

• The ingredients of vibratory refractory castables are: refractory aggregate 60-70%, refractory powder 18%-22%, calcium silicate cement 3%-7% (low cement castable), or calcium silicate cement 1 %-2% (ultra-low cement castable), silica powder 3%-6%, micro-dispersant
• The ratio of the self-flowing low-cement castable is similar to that of the vibration type, except that the particle size and differential content are different. The differential content is generally 5%-6%, and a high-efficiency dispersant is used at the same time.

Application of low cement castable

Low-cement castable can be used in industrial kilns such as metallurgy, petrochemicals, machinery manufacturing, electric power, and building materials. Vibratory low-cement castables are mainly used in heating furnaces, various heat treatment furnaces, electric furnace covers, shaft furnaces, and rotary kilns. Linings for tapping troughs, ladles, and ladles for kilns and blast furnaces.
Self-flowing castables are mainly used for thin linings and linings of high-temperature refractory components with metal anchor attachments, such as outer linings of water-cooled pipes for heating furnaces, professional dipping pipe linings for RH and DH vacuum degassing, and ladle gas supply components.
