Taphole clay is a matériel réfractaire used to block the iron mouth of an iron-making blast furnace. As an indispensable key material in blast furnace operation, the quality of taphole clay directly affects the operating efficiency and service life of the blast furnace.
Classification of taphole clay

Cannon clay is divided into water-based cannon clay and anhydrous cannon clay according to the different binders. Anhydrous cannon clay is further divided into tar-type and resin-type cannon clay.
The composition of waterless tapclay
Waterless tapclay is generally made of corundum, bauxite à haute teneur en alumine, argile, sericite, asphalt, carbure de silicium, coke powder, etc.. as raw materials, and tar, resin, etc.. are used as binders. The volume density of corundum and high-alumina bauxite is relatively large, and they play the role of supporting skeleton in taphole clay, which is the basis of the strength of taphole clay, and greatly improves the ability of taphole clay to resist the scouring of iron slag solution; coke powder has good reducibility, which can protect other carbon components and maintain the reducing atmosphere of the blast furnace iron mouth, and has good thermal conductivity, can be sintered quickly and has a certain sintering strength; silicon carbide has a small thermal expansion coefficient, good thermal conductivity, et une excellente résistance aux chocs thermiques, which can improve the refractoriness, volume stability, high temperature strength and anti-scouring ability of taphole clay; clay and asphalt improve the plasticity of taphole clay; sericite improves the sintering strength and plasticity of taphole clay. Anhydrous taphole clay has the advantages of no moisture phenomenon, haute résistance, stable iron mouth depth, small change of iron mouth during tapping, etc.. in the iron-out channel, and will not cause large flow.
